Print estimating, from size and quantity to a priced plan

Size and quantity in, a priced press plan out: how many fit the sheet, how many sheets the run needs, which press wins on money, the material, the finishing and the margin — and a job bag raised straight onto the schedule.

The problem

An estimate in someone’s head

Estimates often live in one person’s head or one spreadsheet, so the price depends on who answered the phone — and the job bag is written again from scratch when the work is won. Two people quote the same job two prices, and neither can show their working.

How it works

Print estimating, step by step

  1. 01

    Size and quantity

What is being made and how many — the two facts every estimate starts from.

  2. 02

    Sheet maths

How many up on each sheet, and how many sheets the run needs, with make-ready from the press’s own rates.

  3. 03

    Machine and material

Which press does it for least, on which stock, with which finishing.

  4. 04

    Priced and booked

Margin added, the price agreed, and a job bag raised onto the schedule.

What it does

Print estimating: what it does

Sheet maths done for you

Pieces per sheet and sheets per run, worked out the same way every time.

Machine choice on money

The press that does the job for least, from each press’s own rate card.

Material and finishing

Stock and finishing priced into the plan, not added afterwards.

Margin on every estimate

The margin set and visible before the price goes out.

Straight onto the schedule

A won estimate becomes a job bag on the plan without being typed again.

Assumptions said out loud

Bleed, gripper and make-ready stated where the trade would check them.

Questions

Print estimating: what people ask

How does it decide which press?

Each press is priced from its own rate card, including make-ready, and the one that does the job for least is chosen.

What happens when the job is won?

A job bag is raised straight onto the production schedule from the estimate, so nothing is typed twice.

Can we see the working?

Yes. The sheet maths and the assumptions — bleed, gripper and make-ready — are shown with the price.

Is finishing included in the estimate?

Yes. Finishing is priced into the plan along with the material, rather than added on afterwards.

Works with

Licensed on its own, better together

Every module shares one estate and one sign-in, so adding the next is a decision, not a migration.

Production scheduling

The press floor planned by machine and day, with job bags scanned straight onto the plan.

Reporting and audit

The order book read back, an audit log of every change and imports with a dry run.
